so i moved to james island in september. ususally go fishing out of the Folly ramp, mainly cuz its closest and i dont know of many others, and have had decent luck in the area until it got cold. The past couple times out i havent had any luck. so im trying to check out some new areas around James Island. i was thinking of putting in at Sol Legare but ive heard the it might be sketchy to leave my car there. what do you guys think? is there decent fishing in that area this tme of the year? can anyone point me to a better landing that might have some fish around this time of year? any help would be appreciated.
I floated the Folly on the boat from the ramp the other day and didn’t see anything, if you make your way over towards Sol Lagare I have heard of some oyster beds. How about sliding you kayak in at Crosbys, there are some good oyster pockets over to the right as you go across that bridge or put in opposite of Crosbys near that new boat landing. PM me if you have any questions
Bragging may not bring happiness,
but no man having caught a large fish,
goes home through the alley.

thanks. yeah ive put in across from crosbys a couple times. Have you hard that Sol Leagre landing is sketchy? a couple people told me they know people whos cars got broken into down there. i also faintly remember a post on here about it
Sol Legare boat landing IS sketchy. I don’t know anybody that has fished there regularly who hasn’t had their car broken into. I finally just started leaving my sliding glass back window on my pickup open after they broke it to get into my truck to clean the change out of my ashtray. Finally quit going down there after my battery went missing after returning from a trip…now that sucked.
Of course that was years ago…I’m sure the area has gotten better… GL
There are a few good places to launch on JI. Unfortunately I don’t have much experience fishing in winter so I can’t tell you where the fish are. Some obvious launch sites are Folly, Sol Legare, Riverland Terrace, JI county park dock, Sunrise Park, Bowen’s Island.
I’ve used Sol Legare a lot and have never been broken into but it does look sketchy.
At Riverland Terrace launch you have to be very aware of tides and boat traffic.
At Bowen’s you should be ready to give Robert $2 if he’s around.
I think it’s open to anyone. I know Robert (Mrs Bowen was my landlady pre-Hugo) but I think he carries on the tradition that May Bowen started of charging $2 to launch. The ramp is to the far right of the restaurant and all.
yeah ive fished around bowens a little lately with no luck. been thinking of trying out of riverland terrace. does the current rip through there as hard as it does at the wappoo cut landing? is there a landing at JI park or do you have to put in from the dock? where is sunrise park? if anyone is ever looking for someone to go out around Folly with, PM me

At least as hard but it’s ok if you (and other boaters) use common sense.
is there a landing at JI park or do you have to put in from the dock?
From the dock. It’s not ideal but do-able.
where is sunrise park? if anyone is ever looking for someone to go out around Folly with, PM me
Sunrise is next to the James Island Yacht Club on Wampler. They’ve changed the name but I always think of it as Sunrise park.
I’m up for outings sometimes but this time of year is always seems cold when I have time free. I thought I might today but it doesn’t look like it. Maybe this weekend I could fit a short trip in somewhere.
