winter sheephead

havent targeted sheephead much aside from charter fishing but in my new home theres a nice bridge with tons of pilings i could easily yak to and ive been told it holds plenty of them. the bridge is half a mile up river from the ocean and about half a mile long. sheephead plentiful that close to inshore in the winter or they move to nearshore reefs this time of year?

Yes, we caught plenty in winter inshore. Caught about 15 on New years eve in whale branch a few years ago.

excellent. time to charge up the aquaview and pick a section of pilings to start with! bringing a short section of steel pipe to smash barnacles with would be recommended right?

Check local laws first, but if its legal its definitely recommended. I sometimes carry a small flat bladed shovel just for that.

Does that aqua view work well? you know, with how muddy the water can be.

worked great while ice fishing reservoirs and ponds at home. tried it off a pier in cooper river and wasnt bad with clear water. this spot is comparable to breach inlet but a lot wider so should be better clarity than the cooper.
