Hey guys, I am bringing my flats boat down from up here in the mts, to the IOP where my folks live as it doesn’t get as cold down there as here. So I will be coming down and fishing probably one weekend month at least through the winter. My Dad will throw the ear muffs on the engine and let her run a few minutes every week as well. So is there anything that you guys would suggest as far as winterizing it at all? I use Stabil and it will be covered and so on but this is my first boat and i don’t wanna screw something up simply beacuse I didn’t ask the dumb questions, thanks so much you guys are always a ton of help.
You should be good to go…stabil is good and running it every week will keep the battery charged and fresh gas in the engine, keep the engine trimmed down so water will drain and not freeze. Alittle WD-40 sprayed on the block etc won’t hurt either.

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”> Yep! Running the motor is the best medicine. I don’t like to let the trailer wheels sit in the same spot for ever. Good if you can move the trailer a bit from time to time.
In addition to what they said, I would disconnect the fuel line from the engine and let it run out of fuel while stored, and I would suggest maybe some poles of some type under your cover to make sure any rain water drains off of the cover. If the rain water freezes on your cover you will not be happy!!
I “winterized” my boat last fall and just screwed it up. I try to use it once a month (Nov - March) 6 weeks max and have never had a problem. I don’t do anything more than I normally do after a day on the water.
while i saw frozen salt water in the marshes on james island last year
on folly i have not had to even scrape my windows in all the years i’ve been out here.
even when i lived in moncks corner all i ever did was use it once or twice a month and tilt the motor down.
i think he’ll be ok on the IOP
