winter tides and fishing

Do y’all do more low tide fishing or high tide fishing this time of the year? Or better yet, could I hypothetically sleep through my alarm, wake up hours later, and still catch fish on the high tide?

Anything that pulls drag, right?

I prefer to fish lower tides. It will make finding schools of reds easier and they will be looking for mud flats that have been exposed to the sun that are warm to move up on when the water rises. Trout will usually be found between 6-8’ of water with the current water temperatures. Biggest tip I can give is to reduce the profile of your bait and also SLOW down the retrieve. Bumping bottom and slight twitches is all you need. To answer your question about sleeping through your alarm, yes you can still catch fish on high tide. Just makes it more difficult to pinpoint and target them. Good luck!!!

I’m with Capt. Jeremiah. I prefer low tide. I also downsize and slow down. That said, if I find aggressively feeding fish, I’ll use bigger profile baits, still worked relatively slow. Using this approach has helped me boat some bigger fish on any given trip. I must admit, I’ll forego quantity/numbers of bites for quality/bigger fish. That’s not for everyone, especially this time of year when the fish can be a little lethargic.

It’s not talking crap if you can back it up…and nothing can back it up better than facts.

Hightide in the winter fish structure, docks, oyster, mounds close to a creek run mouth. If theres 10 fish in 100000 gallons or 10 fish in 25000 gallons which do you think it would be easier to find them in. Also if i go at low i can spot other things better like bait, deep hole, structure, fish. Structure holds bait, bait holds fish. Plus i love the smell of a marsh and winter is the only time without marsh nats.

thank y’all for the responses!

This time of year I’m in to rush to get out early. The fish bite better midday to afternoon. Sleep in a little, make some pancakes, hook up the boat and go.
I like all tides, you go when the schedule allows
