Winter time redfish fly

Hey guys, Randy hamilton was tying at an event I was at this past month and he was tying a redfish fly for winter time, it was mostly black and some chartreuse and it was a copperhead style pattern but I think that the green on it was a rabbit strip as a tail with black flashabou and black tinsel as wing and body, i think? Anyone know this pattern?

I’m not sure if it’s what you’re talking about, but I have tied up some copperheads with a rabbit strip for a tail instead of the traditional flashabou. Caught fish on 'em, so they work.

Just a variation on his copperhead pattern is my guess. The last time I tied copperheads, I tied all of them just a little different each time. Why? Because, I can and it’s fun.

I saw Borsky tie a crab pattern differently than his typical store bought style. It works great.

You said it was a winter pattern. That typically means that the fly is tied thinner (less material) and darker.

Just tie it like you remember it and see if it works. Let us know. I did search the internet and didn’t see the fly as you discribed. Just tie it and try it.

Yea thats what I am gonna do, he was a nice guy and I remeber him saying he specifically uses it in Charleston area in winter time

If it swims throw a fly at it!
