Well the time is now for those who seek trout on the long rod. Trout are schooled up in very large numbers. I have been having good success with a grey clouser fished slow between tide changes. Water must be moving and fly must be fished slooooow! Someone asked me the other day, “Why are there so few fly fishermen in South Carolina?”. I don’t know the answer because they are sure missing the boat. I went fishing a week ago with a neighbor. He was using shrimp under a float and finger mullet, while I used my flyrod. The totals for the afternoon were twelve trout and three reds for the fly and one red on a mullet. I asked my buddy if he would like to try the flyrod and he says “I don’t think it’s my cup of tea”! I just don’t understand the lack of interest in the fly around these parts! I have offered to teach most of my fishing buddies how to cast a fly but they always seem uninterested. I have even loaned several guys my older outfits to practice with but they always give them back a short time later saying they couldn’t find the time to practice. The lack of interest in South Carolina in the fly rod is a puzzle I don’t have an answer for. Maybe someone can explain it to me!
