Wiring Issues

So I spend the afternoon carefully rewiring the trailer…like I have done many times before. All wires are connected properly. adhesive lined heat shrink connections. Hook up to the truck…nothing. try the other truck…same.Actually read the instructions (yeah I know I can have my masculinity revoked for admitting to this). The only thing the instructions say is I MAY wish to connect the ground wires to the trailer. I opted not to. Does this make a difference? Are LED lights that tempermental?I’m ready to beat the thing with a fish billy!

How did you run your ground if you did not attach it to the trailer? Do you have a ground wire that runs to all the lights. I have had no issues w/ LEDs attaching the ground from the vehicle to the trailer near the coupler and then the pigtails from each light attached to the trailer with heat shrink ring terminals. I just make sure to use marine grease to coat the connection and hardware used to attach.

Alot of times the lights are grounded to the trailer instead of running all the way to the vehicle connector. If that is the case, you should ground the wire from the vehicle connector to the trailer as well.

You opted not to connect the ground wires to the trailer? What did you connect them to?

LED lights are not “tempremental” other than needing to be connected positive to positive and negative to negative.

The lights need a complete circuit to operate. If you only connected the positive wires, they won’t work. Connect the negative wires to the trailer frame and see if this helps.

Thanks guys. Feel like an idiot. Needed to complete the ground circuit at the 4 prong connector. Works great!
