I think she’s hooked! Took my 11yo out for her first time “way out”. Had a buddy and his 12 yo nephew too. The boy has been out before, but not this far. Headed out 150 in a nice ocean. Cruised out at 32 kts. Dropped lines in 130’ and worked out to 250’. Saw some small schoolies, but too small to get a hook in their mouths. In retrospect maybe I should have tried to keep them at the boat and bail them, but I didn’t, oh well. All told ended up pulling hooks on 3 knock downs, popped one off, and had a sail make a slinky out of one of my leaders. Then we went to bottom drop. I couldn’t buy a bottom fish either. 12 yo boy did break a larger fish off, but I’m thinking we probably would have to have thrown it back anyway…prolly one of those extinct fish that I haven’t seen since back in the day when they were MUCH smaller than they are today! BUT the high points of our trip was, 1) FLAT SEAS! 2) the youngins got to see some turtles, 3) saw the lil phins swimming by the bote, A) saw the cuda’s hanging out by the boat while bottom fishing B) saw a huge shark appear then disappear (no one wanted to swim after that!) 10) had a sunfish swim under the boat 4 times! That’s a first for me too! And then my favorite of all…my daughter sat by her dad for the 37 knt ride home with a smile going from ear to ear! And even better than that, even for as slow as it was, she’s hooked!!! It might have been slow, but this was one of MY best days ever!
