I see kids at my son’s high school driving loaded trucks, SUV’s, Land Rovers and such. Do I envy the fact that their parents can give their kids such a car? Yes. Do I resent them for it? No. I tell my son that we don’t know anything about these folks and their finances. Maybe they are up to their butt in debt trying to keep up with their neighbors, maybe they are rolling in money. Who knows? The thing I point out to my son is this, get a good education, go to college and major in something that you enjoy but will provide for a good living and you too can afford the things that make you happy. I also tell him that just because a lot of the kids at school have more than he has does not mean they are happier or have any better home life than he has. Just my .02 worth.

that is fine by me…but when you post those feelings on the www do you not expect some people to possibly disagree with you?

Those are the exceptions. My son guides and bought his own boat…used.

Payed it off in a little over six months. He works hard at it.

And sounds like he’s doing great with the biz, the boy catches fish, that’s for sure!

Of course not, but the op only said that “what ever happened to getting a jon boat for your first boat” (not exactly sentencing the guy to hard labor)and sure that is an assumption but when a guy sees me and then cuts me off in traffic I generally assume that he is a jerk. Maybe hes not maybe his wife is having a baby or hes late for a fire but at the moment I get my ire up a bit. Because chances are…
Thats all the op was doing, imo, venting a little, but you are right, on the interweb we do all get to share our thoughts and disagreements. And thats pretty cool.

Shrimping a decent area also known for some poons the other day, and here pulls up about a 20-25 year old guy and a buddy in a decked out 60K plus bay boat with his website on the side, and ask us if we have “seen any big fish”…I mean decked out…really? come on…what happened to having a jon boat for your first boat

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>

that is quite the assumption…

made a statement that it was “ridiculous” for such an extreme “Escalade” to be on the water and manned by such a young adult, whereas the percentage of someone that straight bought the boat all on their own, established llc, paid for marketing, insurance…is very very small…just pointing it out,…Is a Shearwater or Blackwood necessary at a young age…? Maybe you can find them or their parents and get some money for your lighthouse…

What if you are in a “fancy” boat when see the other ones…OMG they might even be less expensive then your own…then is ok to wonder, assume???

What he said

Does the Captain of a 65’ Hatteras who gets paid for maintenance, tournaments, and running charters, but doesn’t own the boat, need to have started with a 14ft boat and work their way up to the $3 million sporty?

I’m about 99% sure I can think of who you’re talking about…and he doesn’t own that boat.

That being said…I didn’t know one kid in high school whose 30ft contender we could just go drinking on. Now they are a dime a dozen. I think you’re right in that the entry level boat is about 20x where it was only ten years ago. I guess that means I will have to work my arse off so that my kid can have the 120’ nuclear-powered hydroplane when he’s in highschool.
