wish this were a flats report, but its not...7/19

after being stuck inside the house all day studying for an upcoming mcat, i could no longer resist the urge to get outside and do some type of fishing. i had class at 6:30 in the evening, which basically eliminated all hope of getting out on the flats. so i had to do the next best thing. at around 5, i took my little 4wt to a nearby freshwater pond, with a brand new topwater frog fly that i had recently gotten from CA. first 20 minutes or so, there were no signs of fish anywhere. finally, i cast at a fountain that had came detached from the middle of the pond and was floating near the shore. as i was pulling the frog under the waterfall of the fountain, it got absolutely CRUSHED by a ~3lb. bass. the bass came completely out of the water by about a foot. it is the only bass ive caught on a fly rod that actually took line out. definately the best experience ive had on the flyrod in the freshwater. anyways, i ended up catching 2 more 1lb bass and missed a couple more and was on my way to class by 6:15.

ive always been able to catch bass on the fly, but never any of good size. topwater is definately the way to go for bigger fish.
