Went out to 3 mile and Spanish were an easy target, however I will be purchasing some wire so I don’t lose $25 in spoons again. Got dinner and my boy had fun so it was worth it. All caught Fri and Sun were 17" - 22"
Fished about an hour of the falling tide Sun and saw some big spotted tails smack the water but they didn’t bite what we threw at them.
were you trolling or anchored and casting into the fish? Sounds like a fun day.
Trolling. Had 4 nice keepers in 30 min and then after loosing 4 spoons in next hour took my 6 in total and hauled tail into the creeks. Got some wire and more spoons for next trip.
Sounds like fun , thanks for the report .
I’m kinda new to trolling for Spanish, but I’m hooked and have a blast doing it, however I’m not sure if I got my poles rigged correct. I have a 1 ounce weight then approx. 12 foot of 30lb leader with a Clark’s spoon. It’s been working great, however twice I had frayed leader and it broke right at weight. Like the fish were striking the weight. I’ve got wire, leader and spoons. Should I not use a weight? And any advise how to rig?
You can use a # 1 planer to get it down and make you own lures
with coffee stirrer , it’s pretty easy and cheap too
Can still use the Clark spoon on the end or other spoons as well .
Thanks. I’m going to pick up two planers for next trip
