Seen 20+ Hogs this morning. Was trying to shoot a BIG black Boar but couldn’t get a clear shot at him. Ended up taking a BIG Sow out of the pack, and missed one of the smaller ones. Started hunting at 6 am and got her at 7 am. Boned her out and packed the meat out on my bike, was only about 2 miles from the truck, so no way was I going to try to get the whole thing out…
Nice job - what kind of approach do you use to field dress + bone out?
I use some rope on the feet on one side tied to a tree, to pull the legs up, so I can cut the skin on the inner side of the legs. Cut from the rear end to under the chin along the belly…then skin one whole side and flip the skin over onto the ground. Remove legs and hang from a tree with a piece of para cord. Remove loin and any other meat…then flip pig over onto the skinned hide and do the other half.
I take the tenderloins out last…by just removing the lower guts enough to get at them. Takes me about an hour to do a hog that size.
Hanging quarters can be boned while hanging. I use a couple of old camo shirts that had the arms and neck sewed shut, for meat bags.
