Won't Run WOT......Help Please!

Well, after my carburetor problem a couple of days ago (which I was able to fix thanks to Tigerfin), I now have another problem. The boat cranks up on the first turn of the key and it purrs like a kitten (better than before). But, now my problem is that the throttle is very stiff and even at WOT, the boat won’t go more than 6 - 7 mph. When the shifter is in neutral the boat will rev up just fine but, when in gear, it just won’t go. This happened once a few months ago so I don’t think it is related to the carb issue. I am down in Key Largo right now and looking for a fix or the week is somewhat shot. Any ideas? Oh, this is an 03 Yamaha 70 TLRB with 704 Premium Control.

Thanks!

PS: Anyone know a good, trustworthy Yamaha guy down here?

I know nothing about Yamahas but it sounds like maybe it’s not getting enough fuel. When it’s in gear it’s gonna want a lot more fuel than when in neutral.

It’s still possible to have something plug up a jet in the carb after it’s been rebuilt (brittle hose breaking up, etc).

When you say the throttle is very stiff, do you mean the lever at the cockpit feeling really stiff? Is it like this only when in gear?

When you say “even at WOT”, is the motor sounding like it’s actually going WOT RPM and the boat just isn’t going, or is the motor stammering and not actually reaching WOT RPM?

Sorry DF

It sounds like you probably have a linkage not hooked back up correctly. It could be still dirty other than just the needle and seat, too, but if its hard to push the throttle its probably a linkage problem.
