I am looking for a quality thickness planer. I have firearms and fishing equipment to trade, and or cash. PM if you can help me out. Thanks in advance.
If you do decide to go with a new one, I definitely recommend Grizzly. I’ve used both Grizzly and Powermatic 15" planers, and the Grizzly was every bit as good, if not even a bit better (the motor seemed stronger despite both constantly getting new blades and having the same size 3hp motor).

Thanks for the info, RM.

I don’t think it will fit in my garage, though.

If it’s giving you good results, that’s really all there is to it. Planers, when talking about standard high speed steel knives, aren’t terribly complicated. Some may be faster, or a bit stronger, but as long as you get the results you want, then be satisfied .
The best planer I’ve ever personally used on a routine basis is a 22" Powermatic with the helical carbide cutterhead. You could talk and have a normal conversation while planing the wood, it was really quiet with the carbide cutters. We planed close to 10 pallets of yellow birch and the knives never flinched. No way we would have gotten that out of steel knives, but then again it cost us a few thousand more than a standard steel knife setup.

Hey Josh,I just picked one up. Literally an hour ago. Please close this thread.
I went with a steel city 13" planer with helical carbide cutter inserts. I have run a number af rough sawn lumber through it ( all hardwood) and it eats up the rough and leaves quite a good surface. It also comes with a 2 year standard warranty.
