Very nice job by your F.I.L. I have built a couple rods with the MHX blanks. Both were 7’ 8-15# line extra fast action popping rods. The one for myself was the high modulus version…I absolutely love it.
thanks guys! i’m lovin these, they are quite lite compared to what i was using. had now clue they were coming, i was just getting home from Ky. when my wife gave me that surprise, and i was like i know what i’m doing tomorrow

not positive on the cost of the blanks but i believe they were $60 & $70 at muddhole.com with a lifetime guarantee but that doesn’t include the eyes or the cork or the hrs of labor it took to hand craft it. as far as what he charges to build rods i’m unsure for spin rods he builds custom fly rods mostly with sage,st croix,Gloomis he runs a ebay store where he has hand tied flies and custom built rods. his ebay store is dan’sflyshop. you can speak to him about the cost.

A custom inshore rod, i.e one that uses a good quality blank, reel seat, cork, and guides is going to run close to $100 in material. I can build an inshore rod in about 4-6 hours with no crazy butt wraps. If you are not spending at least $150 on a custom inshore rod, start being skeptical of the quality of the components.
