Work weighted artificial with or against current

Somewhat new to fishing artificials for redfish and curious to see if folks primarily fish weighted gulps with the current or against (or both)? I have been rigghing them weedless with a weighted flutter hook. Bait naturally swims with the current so wondering if I should alter my fishing style because I usually fish against the current because the line stays tighter. I am not talking about fishing on a popping cork; that I always let go with the current.

Speaking of popping corks - do most of you use weight when fishing a gulp shrimp under a popping cork or weightless? If so, do you prefer split shots or jig heads or does it really matter? How about circle hooks?

Thanks-

Fish with the current. Bait moves with the current and game fish face into the current to feed. It’s not natural for a little shrimp to swim against a 3 kt. current.

I usually use a jig head with the Gulp under a cork, unless the oysters are thick, then I go weightless or just a split shot.

Work them with the current.
Fish are facing into the current waiting for an ambush opportunity.
Make your bait look and act like a hapless baitfish and you should get bit.
It’s important to keep contact with your lure. If you are bouncing the bottom it should not be too difficult to keep the slack out unless there is a big wind.
Good luck!

Thanks guys, this makes perfect sense. Anyone prefer circle hooks for gulp baits on a popping cork when not using any weight?
