I need to bait the pots, but while gator hunting the rules states “no bait or set hooks are allowed” with a picture of a chicken leg quarter on a hook.
What do you think Mister Warden is going to have to say about having chicken for the crab pots in the boat? Do you think baiting the pots with fish carcasses would be any better or allowed?
I have a call in to the DNR but have not heard back yet.
I’m not sure if you are asking about baiting pots and gator hunting at the same time or not. I would not risk your commercial license doing both at the same time.
If you are speaking about having bait in your boat while crabbing (during gator season) I do not see an issue. There are plenty of crabbers and fisherman with assorted baits in their boats that are not gator hunting.
I’m not a commercial guy. I’m just your average Joe that will be gator hunting. But being as how it is a long trip from G’ville I would like to soak a couple of crab pots while I’m down.
