I’m not a striper fisherman, but I might change that knowing these are out there somewhere.
There are a few like this out there, but are few and far between. MIght look at fishing lake Russle, The S.C. and Ga. DNR has made it a trophy lake!
I saw thst story too. Not doubting the catch, but thr pic is fishy. It’s hard to believe a man his age could hold a 70lb fish up with his arm and shoulder in that position.

that purple rope coming down to the fish’s mouth may be a give away that the man is not ‘holding’ the fish.
Good catch! Had to put my eyes on to see it. I thought it was a tree.
Hartwell,Clarkhill and Russell could all hold fish like this. He must have gut hooked that fish. It only took 20 to 25 minutes to land it.

Good point. I should have said our age. My shoulders kill me.
The fish is on a deer hoist. The original publication shows the fish hanging from it. The photo in this thread has been staged to put it all but out of view.

I couldn’t even imagine catching a fish like that, I’m still waiting to catch a teen. For those of you who have caught the 20# plus fish, what are the fights like? I’m thinking it would be like a big fat lineman. They can make a few powerful runs, but at that size they can’t run for very long.
The ones I have caught on planers screamed off 30-50 yards of line while the board sat motionless on the surface with the line whistling through the snap. After the initials runs, it was just tug-of-war, gaining some line and loosing some until they would wear down. On spoons and downrods, they ran hard initially and would circle the boat 8-10 times, staying deep until exhausted.
It’s been 18 months since I got a 20+. I’m due!

Once that fish reaches 20 lb it’s a whole new ball game. 30+ it’s reached a maybe maybe not. The waters we fish require light line. 20 lb test or less. I’ve caught 3 stripers over 30 and had to follow all of them. I have lost several that didn’t even turn. I had one at the boat i’m sure was 40+ and one landed by a client that was 42. Those fish were fought for 45 minutes to over one hour. The one that was landed was gut hooked and still it was hard to land:stuck_out_tongue:

you can definitly feel the difference between a 25-30#er and a 10-15#er–like a buddy of mine says “the tug is the drug”—i love the second round when they see the boat and a 20+ will definitely give you chills rippn out drag with only 10’ of line between you --but in my experiences its just hang on and smile !—man i would prob quit fishing for em if i caught one that big

That would be a tough one! I’ll decide when that happens.

If you ever lose a big striper don’t forget that fish may have been gut hooked. Look for that fish because they will surface after awhile before they die. Stripers will build a lactic acid from the fight coupled with injury they seldom survive. Sad but true.

Hey 7cs, I believe it’s about to be 4 in a row against your pups(Cocks, 2013 SEC Champs, bank on it)! Cant wait to see the Stripers show up in the Wateree.
Yep! It seems to me that the big dog in the icon should be the one wearing the Gamecock!
