Good lord quit your whining about the lights, wait an extra 5 minutes. So many babies on this site it’s unbelievable.

I was just funnin’ with ya.
On the truck light thing…don’t think it was intentional rudeness, mostly accidental rudeness (I’ve been that guy). I keep my lights on auto so I’ll never have to think about turning them on and running in the dark like so many idiots without auto lights…but at the ramp, I’ve forgotten to turn them off as many times as I’ve remembered to turm them off. Just say something to me, I won’t get mad.

LMAO!!! REALLY!!! So…make others “wait an extra 5 minutes” or exercise some common sense and common courtesy and take a second to turn your lights off? Let’s put it to a vote.
If it’s fair and acceptable to call someone a “baby” for wanting someone to turn their lights off on the boat ramp, is it also fair and acceptable to call those that don’t turn their lights off inconsiderate lazy @ssholes? Besides, you must’ve missed the part where I said he pulled out by time we backed in while you were preparing your insightful post.
Quite honestly, if asking someone to please turn their lights off so I can see to back my boat in without risk of damaging my property or someone else’s property or possibly hitting someone walking on the ramp (we’ve all seen those people) makes me a “baby” so be it. Granted I think that accusatory mentality is nothing more than a byproduct of ignorance and anyone clueless enough to spout it publicly has my condolences.
Claim, no offense taken. I was just funning around myself when I said what I did about the editing job I did.

You are in the right, bangstick.
I’ve been scolded a time or two but its simply because I forgot (I’m usually at the ramp before pretty much anyone) and I thanked them and apologized.
Sometimes people forget, and most of the time they are ignorant.
It would be nice if there were volunteers to assist at ramps on the weekends. Kind of just to direct people on what they should do.

Or make the lesson a part of a boater’s education course?

Optiker, if it were only as easy as “volunteering” to help people. I’ve tried that before and, after his fifth failed attempt to back his boat, was told to “mind my own business” as one person, and his jack-knifed trailer, blocked two of three ramps. I guess the rest of us waiting for him to clear the ramp were just being babies.
leadenwahboy, I would not be against that at all. I’d even add “mandatory” to the equation , if for no other reason than to have a little fun with the “don’t want the gubment telling me what to do” crowd. Lol!! I don’t mind being told what to do if it’s the right thing to do.
Back to the topic of this thread…I hope y’all are able to get out there and get one of these brutes to tug on you for a while. It was better than a strong cup of coffee as far as starting your day. Post’em up if y’all get on’em.
Hey Optiker, how long does the trout spawn run? Like I said, you could tell Juice’s big girl was slap full of eggs but I thought the spawn had already taken place.

bangstick, as far as I know they spawn all summer. The most active spawn is in May I think.

Got ya. So their spawn is kind of like bream…waves of them spawn at various times all summer long. Interesting. Thank you, sir.

I get the frustration with the lights, but by your own report the guy blocked a ramp with his boat. IMO, that’s more obstructive than leaving lights on. Lights have never stopped me from backing down a ramp and launching, but loading stuff on a ramp and other foolish things have. I just think it’s a little silly to focus on lights when there are bigger fish to fry (such as ramp blocking/loading) and some headlights are automatic. I used to have a chevy (2004, i think) that I couldn’t turn the lights off in when it was dark.
BTW, congrats on the jack. Awesome fish, I hope to catch one on the fly one day. Several years ago, I remember someone caught a jack on the fly very near where you were fishing that was either a fly record or almost a fly record. dragged him nearly to the bridge. Wish I could remember the details, it was a good story.
I’ve experienced that same type of headlight issue when duck hunting at some congested put-in spots. Since I knew everyone there had a gun, I decided to keep my mouth shut.

I had an '03 GMC with “auto” lights but I could still manually turn them off, day or night. I have honestly never seen a vehicle without a switch or the functionality to turn the lights off. Regardless, I’ve already mentioned the tow vehicle’s lights were not the kind that “can’t be turned off.” He turned them off, while his truck was running, when he pulled into a parking space. I don’t see the headlight issue as any “bigger” or “smaller” than the dock/ramp blocking issues. We can continue to make excuses about “automatic lights” that “can’t be turned off” but both are instances that cause all of us issues at public boat ramps. Personally, while he blocked access to one ramp and most of one dock with his boat, there were two ramps and one other dock still available. When someone is sitting in the middle ramp (of three ramps) with their headlights on, it’s d@mn near impossible to safely back down either of the other two ramps because of being blinded by the headlights, effectively “blocking” all three ramps. Again, I don’t see a clear cut difference in which is the “bigger fish to fry.”

Nice to hear about the jacks,I haven’t seen any in Botany Bay in forever, last ones I saw was 20 yrs ago in Ashepoo close to the legal shrimping line.
You can’t catch fish on a dry line
One day I hope to be at the ramp early enough to actually need my lights.
“Apathy is the Glove into Which Evil Slips It’s Hand”, but really, who cares?
Millacd… while truck is running, turn light switch to the left and let go. The switch will go back to the automatic position but only parking lights will be on. Pull up ramp then repeat action on the light switch. The lights will turn back on. Unless something is different with yours then mine then that should do it. I had to wait at the ramp this weekend for the same problem. Agrivating as heck to be prepared and ready to roll when I get to the ramp only to have to wait. I work hard on the night before so I’m ready in the morning. Not at the ramp parking lot.
This brings up an interesting point. I always turn mine off, but my son has an 02 4Runner and his lights stay on when the vehicle is on. I need to see if there is a way to turn his off before he has a potential issue at the ramp.
Nice fish and story bangstick, on the headlight issue I believe all vehicles have a “sequence” to turn off the lights. I got schooled on it with a vehicle I was driving when I pulled up to the security gate going on a base where I was working. The guard yelled at me to never pull up to a security gate at night with the headlights on, after he scolded me he showed me how to disable the auto lights. lol

Very Nice Jack bangstick!! Caught myself a big one out on the Wando last year while trout fishing. When the fight was over I couldn’t fish for a good 30 minutes LOL

Turn the switch to the “parking light” position
