Would have been a good one next year

Shot this guy trailing a doe yesterday 11/7/17 about 4:30 pm

Thought he was a little bigger but didn’t have much time to make a decision, would have been a good one next year

PS…I’m not sure how this ended up on an older thread

Congrats.

I have never had a 30-06 not exit- and I shoot Winchester 150 power points- more cheap ammo

Never had problem 1 with corelok bullets. Find another excuse.

Never had an issue with core lok and when I was using the 30-06 never had a lack of exit wound. That’s strange, maybe hit a every bone it could find? Anyway, 40 yards is not something bad for a Critically hit buck or doe to go. It’s amazing how tough those woods goats are. Both front shoulders tore to shreds, heart shot through and I had a little 150lb 8 point make it 80+ yards. I did at least have a good blood trail to follow.

Thanks for sharing!

I have had 2 rem core lock 30.06 not fire - fresh out of the box just click and the buck runs!

Understanding bullet composition and will help answer some questions. As mentioned, hard to say how the bullet was affected inside the body cavity (deflection from bone). Plus, don’t ever underestimate a wild animal’s will to live. I’ve all but exploded a deer’s heart with a rifle and yet they run off. Doesn’t mean the bullet didn’t perform or that I need a larger caliber. Just means that animal wasn’t ready to die at that moment. I’ve seen deer get up and run off after being hit with a truck. Doesn’t mean a bigger truck was needed. Besides, shot placement is what kills, not caliber or bullet type. Bottom line, you squeezed the trigger and the deer got a free truck ride back to the freezer. I’d say the bullet did its job.

In the future, where every stranger poses a potential threat, knowing the predator mindset is the only safe haven.
