Wrapping the boat

Does anyone here have experiences with having a boat wrapped? Do they last? Does it help protect the hull from some wear and tear? Does it hide potential problems with the hull?

My wife has a travel business and Sandals Resorts will wrap agents vehicles for advertisement. She had asked them if they would wrap a boat and they came back and said they have not in the past but are very interested in the idea. While it may be a little tacky I am on board with the idea as it will definitely stand out and possibly help my wife’s business. I still need to get additional information from Sandals on requirements.

If we do this will there be any issues with registration of the boat. Does this now become a “commercial vehicle” and has to be registered and insured as such?

Thank you all for any info you can provide on this.

Wraps are pretty tough, but they can be damaged by anchors or smashing into docks. The adhere remarkably well to the hull and getting one off is a pain in the butt. I’d say go for it.

It’s a vinyl covering, so it does become a “sacrificial” coating. It will last a long time if you keep it clean, keep it out of the sun as much as possible, and use the right products on it. The only wear will be when/where you ding it or scratch it. Once you get a hole, the edges CAN start to lift and cause problems. From what I was told, some companies will not honor the warranty on the film itself if it’s used in the water, and I’m sure you won’t get any kind of warranty from the wrap place…</font id=“red”>

Sounds like a good way to protect your boat’s finish for a while and make some money!
