Wreckfish is a single species http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantic_wreckfish

They are actually closed Sept 1 - June 30. They open June 30, not June 1.

“Wreckfish” is the actual species. They are in 800+ ft depth on ledges and wrecks, and you will catch them fishing for snowies (now illegal in 240ft seaward, btw. You can catch them while daytime swording, however.

They look similar to a grouper. We used to not be able to keep any- they were commercial catch shares only…

Mark Brown brought one into the creek in the 80’s and the biologists didn’t even know what they were yet. Commercial industry for them exploded, and then we had severe shutdown where rec’s couldn’t even catch any. Thankfully, SAFMC listened to us and let us keep one now instead of just tossing them back and watching them float away.
