So I went to a local restaurant that I used to enjoy quite a bit in the past last night. The restaurant puts itself out as a seafood place. One of the things on the menu was “redfish.” I asked my server what kind of fish it was and she replied “Its redfish.” To which I replied “I see that on the menu, but can you tell me what species of red colored fish it is?” I then explained that there is no species called a red fish and that I might be interested in ordering it if I knew what it was that I might be eating. The server seemed annoyed at this point, but stated that she would ask someone in the kitchen if they knew what kind of fish it was. She then returned and said that everyone in the kitchen burst out laughing but said to let you know that it may be some type of maroon colored sea species but they cannot confirm that due to govt. fishing restrictions. I told her never mind I would have foot instead as I dont eat any red fish that I don’t know what kind it is. I was shocked that someone serving entrees at $25 plus didnt even know what they are selling or cooking. About 15 minutes into the meal the chef came out of the kitchen slapped me upside the dome with a batton and gaffed me twice in the shoulder. Then he told me to leave and never come back again. As if I would ever go back there. Who, in their right mind, would serve a red fish and not even know what it is? BTW, the foot tasted great and was cooked to perfection.

If two wrongs don’t make a right, try three.

Only one boat in charleston fishing for them currently out of Cherry Point, think there is around 3 along the east coast fishing them. Very cool fish and fishery.

Can remember helping unload the “BOLD VENTURE” when she came into Port Royal and she was full as much as she could be. That was about 1989 or 1990. Don’t know if she is still around.

She also told me that it was caught on the Charleston Bump but they did not know what kind of fish it was. I told her never mind I would have steak instead as I dont eat fish that I don’t know what kind it is. All cows are the same species.

I’ll bet his steak had some “special sauce” on it too! NEVER insult someone that is going to serve you ready to eat food!!! Dumb

I had a similar experience at a local restaurant the first time I ordered wreckfish; however, I was much nicer and didn’t call out the waitress. My wife and I always like to try something different and gave it a try. Now it is one of, if not our favorite fish to eat. We specifically go looking for wreckfish at local restaurants because it is so good. If you have never tried wreckfish, it tastes similar to Grouper, but I think it is a little better.

I’ll give a local business a plug because their wreckfish special is probably the best fish we have ever eaten . . . High Thyme. For our anniversary, they actually got wreckfish in just for us - really cool.
