I usually don’t post anything political on this site, but…sometimes when enough people speak politicians will change their minds. (I only go to Buck 2-3 times in a season, but this closure is only to great pain for the averge citizen).
See page B1 of the Post and Courier today: Vote on the web site and write to Gav Haley:
Here is what I sent, cut and paste if you want, or write your own:
I have just read in the Post and Courier that you are not considering opening those Federal Parks that could be opened with little expense by the state. In the Low Country these include Buck Hall and Garris Landing boat ramps. The closure of these facilities affects hundreds of people and I’m sure is negatively impacting the economy of the communities surrounding. I am sure that there are similar small facilities through out the state that should be considered for opening also. I just know that the closure of Buck Hall has negatively affected many people I know.
The total lack of leadership in Washington DC should not be compounded by lack of leadership in our state!
She could not possibly care less. She is using this situation to show how the current administration doesn’t care about the voters. I suspect neither does she until she wants your vote. I am fed up with all politicians.

If you would like to be proactive without wasting your time being political, give some of your attention to some of the business being hurt by these closings. Do you think Brooks and Arthur at Sewee Outpost are going to get any back pay from the government when Garris and Buck Hall reopen? Our inconvenience is extra time on the water, theirs and many others is lost $. Support those being hurt with your continued business. And of course, Happy Shrimping!
same as for the commercial fishermen. oystermen and crabbermen depend on the ramps too.

this makes me so angry/
the white house sits on and is considered a part of a
federal park…so…did they send all of their helpers home?/ cooks, butlers, dog walker, chaufers, pencil sharpeners… oh I forgot…there is no “help” for the whitehouse right now. we work for them…why cant they work for us. we are jsut a pawn in their game as far as I am concerned.
Probably not too popular of a station here, but yesterday on NPR I heard Utah is opening their federal parks. If Gov. Haley is serious about business, and I mean small businesses here, then she should find a way to make it happen. I don’t know of a single person in the state that would argue differently.
The reason I posted this was that Gov Haley DOES have to option to open select parks. If she did open Buck Hall it would end the hardship on the businesses in the area, and with the fee we all pay to launch, actually even make a little money for the state.
Although I agree that our politicians don’t care much about what we the people think, if enough people weight-in on a subject, it can make a difference.
Off work tomorrow, I was planning to get up to BB tomorrow by way of IOP, but again the NE wind is predicted to blow 15+ tomorrow, so may cancel for the 3rd time this year. Going to the Harbor for a few hours tonight.

Some of what you write makes me reasonably confident we are somehow related.
she may have the option but she does not have the balls. i wrote her a letter and actually asked her to show her knads and serve the people of this state instead of just her self and the pot lickers that shine her shoes. i am sure that without a doubt they are watching my house now. then again; as an old veteran of the most unpopular war i really am old enough that i do not give a rat’s ass. we need more letters but better yet; we have got to get in touch with some form of the media that would serve our needs. maybe in the charleston area also. i am coolbreeze and i approve of this message.
Thanks for link and encouragement Doclevin. Not sure why the animosity towards the Gov. but this ain’t site for that discussion. Did send letter, thanks to you.
john; there is no animosity on my part. the truth is basically the truth.she has the power to open these locations just as some of the governors in 11 other states have done. she just does not want to go against the grain. it may hurt her ability to get contributions from all of these other states inclucing new york and california. not animosity. you are almost correct on the topics however it was out there and some of us just responded to it. thank you for being the site police however.
I have been thinking on this one!!I have seen a lot of DNR folks in the Cape Romain Wildlife Refuge(federal) Doing studies etc, issuing Oyster permits, shrimping permits, etc etc…On the surface it looks like South Carolina laws apply to this federal Wildlife Refuge…Then why would DNR and the governor roll over to closing a ramp???
Are not the fish, oysters, and shrimp inside this federal wildlife refuge still being harvested under S.C. laws??? Federal Highways are controlled, policed, closed, detoured etc etc by the state???
I just do not get it!!!It seems so childish and immature to close the ramps??These “babies” have big guns to back up their bullying tactics, otherwise they would impotent…
So, WHY DOESN’T THE STATE DO SOMETHING??? Could it possibly be that the state/DNR receive big bucks from the federal government that supports their budget in this wildlife refuge…thus making the state reluctant to take action for fear of losing federal monies???
I really do not know the answer.Accountability should be to the people(PUBLIC)…Is it??
Good input from all, Hopefully this will all be OBE’ed (overcome by events) very soon. DFreedom, appreciate your comment, hopefully there are more of us out there that think similarly. I will refrain from any further political comments, but was kinda hoping that I could let you all know I heard back from Gov Haley’s staff today, but even checked my spam folder and no response. Guess they were just too busy…
Ya’ll gotta love this. as i said; i wrote the governor yesterday and asked her to show some knads and open up the landings as other governors in 11 other states have done instead of sucking up to the boot lickers that shine her shoes. Well;;;;;;;;;;guess what. mr. hal peters from the governors office called me back about twenty minutes ago with a bunch of rhetoric as to why she will not cross the picket line. he tried to tell me about having to pay the feds if she did that and other things. he did say that they saw some humor in my letter and then i told him that my late dad always said “please do not pee down my leg and try to convince me that it is raining” he liked that also but still was basically a waste of my phone time.in other words… it ain’t going to happen.
