Looking to get my 10yr old a .410 pump for Christmas. I know there are plenty of single shots out there, but he wants a pump. Haven’t looked at the gun stores yet, figured someone on here might want to get rid of one.
I have .410/.22 over and under. Its been a long time since I have seen a pump.
Remington used to make a nice 20 gauge “Youth” pump. When he gets older it could be converted to an adult size gun by getting a longer stock and barrel. Shells would cost a lot less too.
I’d also go with a 20ga. youth model, then he could also hunt deer with it. Have you priced 410 shells lately[:0]

I bought my son a Remington 870 410 pump for his first shotgun,very sweet gun. I’m sure they still make them.My son is 20 now and that’s still his go to shotgun for everything except deer.Shells are pricy though.
Yes, Remington and Mossberg both still make youth model pump in .410. I saw a Mossberg at Walmart last week, $329 I think it was.

I borrowed a .410 pump from my brother for my 8 yr. old to start shooting recently. I’ve bought boxes for about $12 each at Walmart, but Palmetto St. Armory had them for $9.99/box a couple of weeks ago. They were #8.5 target load from Federal. I bought a case since I’ve got boys 8, 5, and 2 and the .410 Mossberg pump shoots nice w/minimal kick.
Glad someone brought this subject up because I am in the same situation.

I have a 410 Mossberg pump never had a whole box of shells shot through it .Also have a youth model 20ga franchi automatic. like brand new shot only one box os shells through it . call me at 833-4198 thanks
I would also go with a 20 ga. It will kill anything that flies or hops/climbs. A 20 also has a bit larger pattern than a .410, so for a youngster, it helps build confidence, and delivers clean kills. The ammo cost is also considerable. As far as online gun shops, you still have to pay transfer and tax, plus you aren’t helping local tackle/gun shops. If it screws up, you have to make arrangements to have it shipped and insured for factory fixes, or pay a gunsmith. Also, mail order, you get what you get. JMHO
