Are you in charleston? I’m in summerville. I have one you can borrow. I have caught possums in it. Not sure if its big enough for a coon but you can try?
I just happen to see on the Tractor Supply website that they sell a 2 trap set for $29.99. One is 12 X 10 X 32 which is big enough for Raccoons. The second trap is smaller. They have other traps as well.
I have caught many a masked bandits in the range of 10-25 lbs in these traps. The key is to know how to redesign \ alter the trigger latch. The one from the factory tends to leave me with empty unbaited and unsprung traps. I use poptarts for bait and put the debris, logs, etc around all 3 sides so that they can’t get the bait through the side before entry hence prematurely tripping the trigger and closing the door. I also will drive a stake into the ground through the rear of the trap to ensure the animal from rippling my trap as well. Loads of success by doing these tricks that I had to figure out.

I did a lot of trapping at one time. I worked in road construction then & would get laid off for several weeks each winter which gave me plenty of time to trap. I had about 1500 traps, in various sizes & both leg holds & body grips. I built several wire box traps too because some places were not good or legal for the other trap types.
I also staked the box traps down, because Raccoons will dislodge a bait without going into a trap, especially if caught before. I used cans of sardines as bait, by punching a few holes in the cans and wiring them to the trap floor. They had to go in the trap to get to the bait. I also would position the trap near obstacles that directed them to the trap door. Most animals are habitual, and they’ll travel the same routes to & from areas. The trick is finding where they’re traveling.
harbor freight also has them. we got a pretty big one for 14.95 last week. will hold large possum or coon…and we have caught both now. this one has a easy open release door. they are smart critters for sure. one almost cornered Roo one night…so he got to go on a truck ride to some woods. growled at me every chance he got. oh yeah…they also love peanut butter
theres usually a coupon in mailers and the wed. and sunday paper for harbor freight purchases also

I have the trap from Harbour Frieght,it works okay,I find many times the critter gets out.If any of you have some pointers I would appreciate it. I am on a mission to catch cats and at least get them fixed to end the madness.
Sophish if you have a lot of strays you can get with the spca and humain society and they will put together a trapping team to catch fix and release the cats…I can’t get the rest of the family to agree to do it…about 20 cats roam the property
