Looking to buy an engine lift/hoist to remove an outboard from a small boat. It’s a 40hp Yamaha 4stroke. Anyone got one for sale?
I just went through this exact project…and this is how i did it with a engine stand and chain hoist for under $100. Bought this from harbor freight:

And built this with about $15 worth of 2x4 from Lowes (and some wood laying around the garage):
You can hang the chain hoist from a tree or in a garage but I actually used 2 8’ ladders and a bar between them which worked perfect. Happy to give more details if you want.
It’s 200lbs.
Just put an eye bolt in the ceiling joist and use a ratchet strap.
Put the trailer jack all the way down.
Tighten the ratchet strap.
Unbolt the outboard.
Raise the trailer jack until the weight of the motor is on the strap.
What friogatto describes will work as well and will be almost free - the 40hp 2stroke i just installed weighed about 175lbs so me and a buddy were able to pick it up and move it around. Where the chain hoist comes in handy BIG time is being able to raise and lower slightly and change the angle when trying to re-install. Those bolt holes are a pain to line up sometimes (especially because i had a jack plate).
And you will find a bunch of reasons to use the chain hoist in the future…

Buy one, use it, sell it.
I’d rather fish than eat.

Just undo the motor and block under the skeg with 2x4 blocks and use the trailer jack to lift the bow, the stern will drop and the motor will be off and you can walk it down. Balance the motor while a friend does the jacking. I have done many, up to 225 hp this way!
I have an engine lift and engine stand. If you are interested pm me. Only used once.
