WTB: Steel targets

I’ll give our steel supplier a call on Monday to see if they stock or can order it. If they do and you’re willing to wait until mid-January when we place our monthly order, the cost would be substantially less than if we were to order just the sheet by itself. Pricing levels decrease as the tonnage purchased increases hence the reason for waiting:)

As for cutting it, we use cold saws and O2/Acetylene and cut up to 1" plate with ease. However, I would recommend finding someone with a CNC, water jet or plasma cutter (underwater preferably) to cut it if you’re wanting precision. But at the end of the day, you are throwing lead at it…

Happy to help if needed

Mine are some cheap stuff of of the web, and have served me well for 2+ years. Even the cheap stuff, as long as thick enough and AR steel, will last forever. Some of my 8" gongs have had 100’s of rounds of jacketed 308 blasted on them. Barely a dimple.

Just got a few in of eBay. Nothing special looking. I’ll try these out next weekend probably. 6", 10", and 12" targets.

Anyone tried shooting this stuff with FMJ? Results?

We shot a few thousand rounds this weekend and I’m well pleased with the AR500 steel targets off of ebay. No physical damage to the targets. The chains allowed for enough swinging backwards when struck to dissipate the round and force fragments mostly down, but return to its natural state quickly also. I don’t see a reason that these won’t last me 10 years. As long as you don’t shoot them with a high velocity rifle at close range, (less than 100/150 yards depending on the rifle) you’ll never have a problem with these. Just repaint and carry on. There are fragments that get kicked back when hit, but as long as you are a safe distance away and use good judgment (ear/eye protection), you’ll be fine. For my shooting friends, I made a 20 yard line for them to safely shoot from behind. If you can’t hit a 12" target from 20 yards, you really shouldn’t be shooting!

Nice setup, like the deer crossing sign…
