WTB: Steel targets

Anyone have scrap steel or steel targets laying around that I could make some shooting targets from? I have a plan to build up an area for pistol targets at my property, but I don’t want to buy the cheap amazon stuff. I want something that will last for years.

Appreciate it.

Do you have design ideas of what you want?? I have a little scrap that may work.

I’ve also been wanting to buy a few steel pistol targets, if anyone knows a good source.

Square or round of different sizes would be all I need. Nothing fancy, just something to make that “ding” when you hit it. Also want mounting holes to hang from a chain. I was thinking two at 8", two at 14", and maybe one at 20" at a distance.

Beware of ricochet when shooting steel.

Was with a buddy the other day that shoots ALOT snd he was talking about going all the way to Tenn to pickup a couple 4’ x 8’ sheets of steel for making targets to sell.

He also mentioned them needing to be be tilted down to prevent this possible hazard.

Just make sure you only shoot lead bullets at steel. No copper jackets or you run the risk of the jacket ricocheting. The lead just turns into liquid splatter when the energy hits the hard steel. You’ll also get some lead splatter back on you if you stand too close.

There are some cool reactive steel targets on the market made of top quality steel, and engineering. I like the silhouettes.

Use the ar500 steel.Mild steel will dimple and send bullet and fragments back at you. Angle downward as mentioned above.

I buy and sell AR plate all the time. Hard to find “scrap.” Let me know if you need a sheet drop shipped to your property.

Down here is where a signature goes but they can confuse and anger some people so I don’t have one.

Got a plate of mild I shoot all the time at distance, the bullets just splat against it but it gets dimpled. I ordered some AR plates off EBay not long ago that were reasonable price to make a few more gongs out of.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I had to google AR steel plate to even know what yall are talking about [:I]

What thickness would you recommend for pistol calibers? I’ve got a neighbor with a cutting torch and plasma cutter. And a broke boat:smiley:

3/8 is the minimum I’d go. 1/2" is better.

Sure thing, if you cut it for me.

I was hoping someone here had access to material and had done it before. I don’t mind paying especially locally. You never know what you’ll get buying stuff online.

Thanks,

Replied back, give me a few days and I will have some numbers for you. AR plate is drop shipped, It's heavy and we don't like touching it if we don't have to.

Man, these “Assault Rifle” 15 guns are so deadly they had to make special “Assault Rifle” 500/550 steel just to contain them?

Haven’t found anything local. I guess I’ll try a couple off eBay for now.
