Odd request…
I am looking for various types of material to turn in a lathe. Just got a lathe and milling machine, both with a lot of tooling. Now I need stuff I can turn into chips.
Rusted, square, whatever is good. Just need some material to practice on.
Go to a junk yard. You can find lots of stuff there. I make knives and spring steel is cheap there.
Do you have a Metal Supermarket near you? Great place and they have scraps too small to sell so will usually give or sell for next to nothing.

Yea I have talked with a couple of scrap yards and gotten mixed results.
No we don’t, wish we did.
Try checking welding/fab. shops. sometimes they’ll let you go through the scrap bins. I’ve got some pieces of aluminum pipe if you want some.
