Carp Crusade Bowfishing

The triple tail is the closest, but it would have had to have been sideways and its tail bowed down in the water. Kind of an awkward position for any fish to be in. It was 100% not a manatee. Ray wings don’t look like what I saw. Definitely fish fins. Couldn’t have been a leatherback. I agree it would be strange if it were a goliath grouper, and I definitely have my doubts. But what else could have 2 huge fins in the air like that? I sure do wish I could have gotten a positive ID on it.

Probably an alien

My sister’s husband was stationed in Corpus Christie , TX about 8 years ago. We took the fairy boat to Port Aransas. We watched a guy fishing off the rock jetties. He was fighting something massive. After about 45 minutes he had a 350(guestimate) pound Goliath Grouper. Water was about 8 ft deep. It could have been one. That is one beast of a fish species.

Key West 1720 115 HP Johnson Saltwater.

I think this is their spawning season, when they return to the ocean!

Trust me, I mostly lurk here and know very little about saltwater fish but I did see a tripletail caught from up under the Apache pier a few weeks ago. While he was still lounging under the pier and before he got caught, a guy was saying he thought it was a tripletail but every one he'd ever seen before this one was laying on their sides. Apparently, that's a common thing for them to do so it's very possible one would have been in the posture. Having said that, I have no idea how big they get. The one caught under the pier was only two pounds.

Leatherback turtle. No reason for a Goliath Grouper to be in the surf unless it was dying.

I don’t know how big they get but I’ve gigged a triple tail swimming on its side one night.

First, Most, Biggest
I want to catch them all

Sanibel FL, woman catches in the surf a 300lb Goliath Grouper.

What about a big Black drum? They can get close to 100lbs when they get old, they can have blackish fins and they def can have a “hump” on their backs.

It was headfish and from the sounds of it you’re lucky it didn’t stove in your yak and comeback to finish you off out of boredom.

Great story to tell the grandkids enjoyed hearing about it.

This seems pretty logical to me… Or bigfoot.
