Went out for another couple hour trip with my brother-in-law and oldest youngen in search of some reds. We finally got to the point that generally holds low tide fish and literally two dolphins showed up out of nowhere and fed on the slot size reds for over 30 minutes 8( then we found another school of fished staged on another point and I missed out on a nice red since I didn’t count to 5 Mississippi.
Not much can be done when flipper shows up
Count to five Mississippi? Why would you do that?

When I find my winter fish and the water nears 55 degrees I have to wait 5 seconds with artificial before I set the hook because they generally hit the bait and just sit there taking their time to fully engulf it.

Thanks! That explains what happened on my last trip. Found reds schooling in shallow water. Caught one missed three! The ones I missed bit very different. More of a nibble nibble on the three I missed. I let the third one nibble longer but it wasn’t five seconds worth. Thanks sharing your knowledge!
