we met saltfisher at 4KI sunday and intentionally anchored close to each other as plannedso we could shoot the breeze and socialize…while there we had several boats circle us(heck one time thought we were in the center of a wagon train)some circled and tossed near us, circled and tossed near us…I too was giving them the “well hey there boys why dont you just come tie off to our cleat” look…but they didnt seem to notice…guess its going to be a lonnnnng summer…better try to learn patience now…

I think it’s time for us to find some new shallow live bottom b/c it seems that the only issues come from the close wrecks…I’ve been to Y-73 where the 1st 4 or so numbers I punched in somebody was on but it NEVER crossed my mind to fish anywhere near them…What are these fools thinking or do they have no seamanship or eticut(sp)???

What does it matter if someone pulls up on you when you are bottom fishing a wreck? If you tied 4 boats together on a wreck and you were all fishing the same area it wouldn’t matter! Its D-bags like you that think you own wrecks that are the real losers!

Sure seems like things have changed out on the reefs over the years. I just always planned that people were going to be fishing close to me when on one of the few artificial reefs close to shore. 10’ is definitely too close, but there were many days we had conversations with people anchored near us and we did not have to yell to converse, nor did we know them. Met a lot of nice people. Some here may remember when king mackerel fishing was a big crze in the early eighties. One morning we counted 65 boats anchored around the tip of the north jetty. When a boat hooked up he released anchor and fought his fish through all the boats. I remember some funny moments, but very few cross words. I guess Charleston has just become so crowded now that we go to the water to get some space and are aggravated when we don’t get it. I don’t even care to fish the reefs that much anymore for this reason. If I do go it is normally a day off during the week.

It’s a thing called courtesy. You should try it some time. It is no diffrent than when you sit in a booth at a resturaunt and someone you don’t know comes and sits in the booth with you. It is not your booth so what the heck does it matter, right? Well wrong my friend, if I wanted to be that close to you I would have called you to go fishing with me. Give other people some space. As it happened for me, we were on the 4KI and including my boat there were 4 boats that day. Believe me there was plenty of structure to go around. Just be respectful of others.
hot sauce…its not t a matter of everyone thinking they own a place…but as someone said…its courtesy…have waved many a person over when we were tearing iup the spades and they were watching and catching zilch…and like Andy said…its fun to meet new folks…but its those that come flying by…circle/circle and barely miss your anchor that bothers me…have almost lost a anchor a time or two because of it…and actually had someone bounce a lead off of our boat once…and yes…we were there before they were…just give others a little space and be nice about it

Andy It use to be called southern hospitaliy, I guess that was back in the day when you anchored up next to each otehr and shared bait and beer and cheered when soemone caught a big one. Now with all the folks that have moved here, there is a great deal of competition rather than folks looking out for one another and enjoying time together. i guess i was brought up fishing differently than others but unless u knew sum1 u didnt disturbed their fishing grounds. if u can hit sum1 anchor line u r terribly 2 close…ive had an instance where while trolling a boat screamed by within 30 ft and took all 4 lines with him…dad proceeded to chase this guy down and have a few choice words…then the guy decided to make the intelligent comment of the day and say “what the hell do u want me 2 do abt it, give u 20 bux?” yep u know it, dad flipped his lid…I thought I was going 2 watch the demise of 2 fisherman as they fought to the death…well dad stayed on board our boat and didnt jump ship…courtesy is the big word here…if you have none u have no business being out there…end of story
