Y73/Gardens Area bottomfishing

Took Duckcommader and a couple bags of skrimp and fiddlers out to Capers after a disasterous morning. We had planned on leaving a little late to let it warm up, but not quite this late. Had a flat on the trailer on I26 at about 8AM. Didn’t have a spare with me of course, so we limped to Northern Tool and waited a half hour on them to open up to get a spare. Finally got to the first fishing spot at 12:30.

The ocean was slick all day. Very little wind and a 2’ slow swell all day. Really cool day on the water. We started at Capers looking for sheeps, but after being discouraged with our anchoring and drift because there was litterally almost no drift and inability to get on a fish after 20 minutes, we had these Dbags come anchor up next to us…right on top of us actually. I guarantee you I could have pelted both of them in the head with 6oz of lead had I wanted to. They were literally about thirty feet from us and didn’t grasp the “I hate you, get away from me” look. I got discouraged, called them duechbags (under my breath of course) and we headed off for the gardens. I didn’t feel like fighting any of the other ten or so boats that were all cramped up on top of the good bottom either. No one was at the gardens when we got there. Started at some bottom I had previously marked and didn’t see much going on so we scouted around and found some fish marking pretty good, so we drifted twice, got some knotheads, and went back and set the hook. Moved two or three times during the afternoon when it got slow, but all in all we had a pretty good day for the two of us. Ended up with a limit of big seabass plus some smaller ones, 6 triggerfish, and a porgy. That’s what we kept. We also caught and released a ton of small BSB, beeliners, some grunts, the rest of the usuals. No grouper or snapper, although we weren’t really fishing for them.

We did run into some CF celebs out there too. Hannappa rolled up next to us offshore with a crew full of misfits. They had lost their transducer, so they asked

Sorry about the flat, but at least you ended up with some fish!
I passed the station on the way to my parents’ house when you were filling up. I tried to get back there to say hello, but you were already rolling and heading to the storage yard (I assume). I think we are heading out that way tomorrow(Y-73 area).

Yeah, it was on Saturday. I actually passed you on 17-a shortly after you pulled out from the Sangaree entrance, then you turned left. Nice boat, definitely a lot more boat than mine…

I feel your pain. Last time we were out, one boat idled by us and tossed one of those little fishmarker bouys within 10 feet of our boat. I politely told the guy “why bother with the da## marker”. He pretended not to hear us.

Will do! I should have pulled in there before I dropped off my dad’s boat that I used for shad fishing the day before. I thought about honking when I passed you, but I knew that you wouldn’t know me from Adam. Maybe we can buddy boat coming up soon and catch a few or 30 phins…:slightly_smiling_face:

Fishing solo, going old school most likely! You got any rods I can borrow, might find some warm, blue water if I get bored…not really, but I’ll leave early with ya’ll just for the ride out if that’s cool.I’ll call you in a few hours and get things lined out.

haha

I guess Murphy was out to get us all yesterday. You and your flat tire, me and my missing transducer, and Chris with his lost dive stringer.
At least all wasn’t bad. Everybody caught fish and the ocean and weather were beautiful.
Thanks for letting us cornhole you for a little while. Be on the lookout the next time you agree to let Sellsfish anchor up near you though. Rumor has it he’s on the lookout for one those water balloon/blackfish launchers:wink:

Ya’ll are lucky Jerms wasn’t on board…we’ve talked about that all last summer. We are doing it this year!

I can see it now…
