Ya Can't Fix Stupid....Weekend Report

Worked on the house all day Saturday and then got the boat ready to bait fish Sun am. I got a 2nd wind after showering Sat eve and decided to go troll a couple of hours. Stopped at the Citgo near the dam and after gassing up the truck I decided to get some gas in the boat. It was parked in front of the pumps behind me, but not lined up right to get to the pump. Backed up to straighten the boat out until I heard a crunching sound as I turned my front fender into the cement pole in front of the pump I just used.

That really ruined my mood and I was almost ready to turn back home, but decided to go launch the boat anyway.

Right after dark I started marking quite a few fish at 40’-45 and picked one a decent keeper about 9:00. The about 30-40 min later I got #2. For some reason, instead of holding him down while I removed the hook, I somehow figured it was a good idea to just lay him on top of my bait tank. He seemed pretty spent, but as soon as I went to remove the hook he started flopping around violently and drove one of the hooks into my hand.

Hurt like hell at first, but really wasn’t so bad after that and I was able to bring in the downriggers, drive back to the ramp and get the boat loaded. Thanks to some people in the parking lot, we were then able to undo the split ring and separate the hook from the plug.

Thought about trying that “snatch method” of yanking the hook back out, but not for very long. I went to that new hospital off Lake Murray Blvd and had it removed.

I didn’t get out of there until 3:10 am, so there really wasn’t enough time to get some sleep as I was meeting steelytom at 6am. I just picked up my bait rods and piddled with the boat some at the ramp

OUCH! Talk about a long day - and a crappy one at that. Coulda been an eye though!Looks like the truck will buff out - the hand not quite so much! Glad you are ok and the fish were safe.

OUCH … man I could have done without seeing that one … [:0]

Just remember the story I told you about the husband burying his Zara Spook in his wife’s backside while trying to cast … that outta bring things into perspective … Things can always be worse … LOL

Either way it sucks getting a hook buried in any part of the anatomy … On the bright side it’s looking pretty good for fishing tomorrow and Wednesday …

… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

If that truck buffs out, I want to buy that buffer:wink:

Not only was the hook deep it looks like it was a bit rusty too. You really know how to do it up right. - lol

Ouch sounds like a rough trip. I remember my dad hooking a treble hook Full of chicken livers in my moms head. She never did let him live that down.

Thanks for the offer Steve, but I started working through another company 7/1 and got our boss in town this week and next. We’ll be starting early every day.

The weather is looking beautiful the rest of the week though and I will probably troll a couple of hours right at dark Wed eve if you want to try some night fishing.

Ouch! In the back of the hand no less. Glad you’re ok now.

I’ve only got myself “good” with a hook about 25 yrs. ago. I was tightening on a knot when it slipped & went well past the barb into the tip of my left index finger. I called the ER and a couple of doctors offices and they told me “at least $150”. Well, I was barely living paycheck to paycheck back then and there was no way I could afford that. I tried to push it through, but my fingers were calloused from playing the guitar, and it wouldn’t go.
I’ve got a pretty high tolerance to pain, so I did what any right thinking guy would do, grabbed a six pack, a funny cigarette, a bowl of ice, and a razor blade. Drink a beer, take a couple of hits, numb with ice & cut till it started to hurt. Repeat as needed. It only took me about an hour and really didn’t bleed (or hurt) as much as I thought it would. And I still had a couple of beers left.
A buddy came over & saw what I was doing, went straight back outside & puked. I thought it was hilarious.:smiley:

Dam Bob, that’s pretty hardcore. To bad you didn’t know the snatch method, would be less painful. I just realized I think I was parked beside you at the ramp saturday. Was that you spraying your spark plugs?

Nope, it wasn’t me. I saw another red Lund coming in as I was leaving. Maybe it was him.

Yeah, I never heard of the snatch method until about 10 yrs. ago. Back then it was try to push it through, go to the ER, or DIY. I chose the last one.

Over the years, I have probably had over a dozen hooks in different parts of my body. Been to the ER twice, and used the “snatch” method the rest of the times. I have also used it on several guests on my boat, and in most cases, you don’t even know it happened the next day. I am pretty sure it would take a really unusual situation to ever get me to go to an ER again.

In the last three years, I have “coached” three different people how to get a hook out of me.

I wish I had had as much success at getting people not to hook me in the first place!
