Yacht Certified

Next season, I will be owning/operating a weekend charter boat. Harbor tours, chauffeured events like birthday parties etc, some fishing, so will be going center console (6 pack + 50 ton license)

Been listing my own pros/cons but would love to hear from all of you: Whats the take on say a Sea Fox 246 with 10 person cap. vs a Sea Fox 266 that is “yacht certified”

Just want to make sure I’m not missing anything important on this decision… Thanks all.

ABYC only runs up to anything under 26’. ABYC H-5 is the standard driving the capacity plate. USCG Yacht Certified picks up from there but requirements get more vague/different.

End of the day, both SeaFox boats built to the same standard by the same guys.

Thanks SK, I guess more specifically, if I get one that is “yacht certified” I could have as many people on board as I feel is safe, compared a boat that i not “yacht certified” and I can only have as many people on board as the placard states?

With a 6 pack license, you can only carry 6, no matter how many people the boat is certified for.

Thanks for chiming in cracker…I understand the licensing. I will start w OUPV then upgrade to master 50T soon after.

Joseph after you get your masters you still have to be uscg inspected to charter for more than 6 passengers, I highly doubt you will be willing to invest in being a inspected vessel when you see all your required to have. This is the reason no more of the charter boats in town are more than 6 packs!
Not trying to bust your bubble just making you aware what is required to be legal.

Capt. Bill,

Thank you for that info, I’ll check into the requirements for an inspected vessel…that’s a great piece of info and will definitely help hone in my boat choice.
