yak camera

i know I asked about this a while back, but I now deciding about the olympus 850wp and the 1035(?)wp. Any input on these two camera’s?

I use the Pentax Optio W20 – great waterproof camera. This thing has taken a lot of hell over the last 2 years, and it’s still going strong. 7.1 mega pixel and I bought mine for $200 – bet they’re cheaper now. Great pic quality, timer, etc. Perfect for yak fishing.

I got the wife one of the olympus water proof cameras about 2 months ago. Great pictures outside, not very good inside or in the evening.

I agree. It’s definitely only for the water.

The only thing I don’t like about the olympus 850 and 1030 cameras is that they will only shoot 30fps video for 10 seconds at a time. You can shoot at lower frames per second for longer but not 30fps.

I bought the olympus 850 and have really grown to appreciate its flexibility. It will not take pictures like that of a DSLR camera, but for its size and waterproof/shock/weather abilities it does a great job. I used the camera exclusively on a recent trip to Honduras where it took a heavy beating and it still functions flawlessly. It is showing some wear though as the body is not all metal and the plastic scratches fairly easily.

Here are some pics to show the quality of the images in varying environments.

For what it is worth, I had the Pentax, after the third time it broke, I went out and bought the 10 megapixel olympus. I love it so far. Mine has the all metal body, and it has held up well. I have been happy with all of the picture taking, inside, outside, night, day, etc.

Which ever one you end up getting, get yourself one of these, http://www.joby.com/. I use my gorillapod to wrap around a rod holder up front for perfect pictures of me and my catch!

I kept dropping it from a foot or less (the last time it broke, it dropped out of my pocket and on to a wooden deck from a beach chair), and the “Digital Calibration” kept getting knocked out of whack. The LCD screen cracked after being in my pocket on St. Patrick’s Day, but will I take the blame for that.
Pentax still has it, but they want $155 to fix it for me this time. I guess I will pay for it, and then sell it on Ebay?

For sale: 1 Pentax Optio 20, recently refurbished, $200.

Have the Olympus 1030SW. Best camera I have ever had as far as usability. My best camera is an SLR but I can’t use it for everything like the Olympus. Olympus makes a far better camera than the Pentax. Pentax is good but not in the same category as the Olympus.
