Yak rod & reel suggestions?

a flow-troll is good

7’ long rod lets the fish run you around the yak without the line hitting the sides and getting tangled or cut. I have mostly St.Croix rods and Penn Slammer reels…Love em. All the above are also good suggestions and will work.

I’m a newbie to inlet fishing what’s a good bait bucket that will keep a few mullet or some shrimp for half a day?

Scott makes a fly rod for kayaking. Called the backcountry special. Its 7’7 but it also cost $625.

I’ve had pretty good luck with the Shimano reels. I don’t feel the need to spend 150 bucks on a reel that I’m going to destroy in two seasons anyway, especially in the kayak where it’s exposed to more abuse from saltwater. I have a couple of 2500’s that I use primarily for trout that are three seasons old and still work great, landed 15 trout with them on Tuesday. Just picked up a Shimano 4000 with a 7’ rod for 55 bucks at Charleston Angler. Sure there’s nicer out there, but when it comes to catching fish under 20 lbs the difference is minimal. When you start talking about offshore fishing, then I think it’s justifiable to spend the extra jack for higher quality equipment.

I fish when you’re at work.
