Yak rod & reel suggestions?

I’m gearing up for my new yak. Currently the only combo I have is a
Shimano Sedona 4000 with a Quantum 7’ med/ heavy rod. Need to get a couple more. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, Rick

Oh, this ol’ river keeps on rollin’, though,

And as long as it does I’ll just sit here
And watch the river flow.

Basicly anything shimano is good, exept for sonoras. I just dont like em. For rods Shimano teramars are expensive(130$) but worth it. TAke a look at penn slammers, they are awesome.

Got him!!!

also look at the stimulas, and clarus

If you are going to spend $130 get a Greenwater Loomis. You can’t beat a G-Loomis rod. I also like the Quantum Cabo’s. Mine have been dunked several times and still have held up far better than my Shimano reels.

loomis rods…greenwater is awesome.

price wise the berkley cherrywood has done me well for less than 30 bucks per rod.

7 foot rod, size of reel depends on what ur catching, for reds 4000, for trout 2500.

Got him!!!

WOW! Thanks for all the responses. I’m out of state & gonna buy when I get down, does Haddrell’s carry Loomis Rods? I wish they would get their web site up.
Thanks Again

Before you go drop money on a loomis, you might want to check out a star rod. I have had an older loomis rod, some crowders and now a terramar, and I like the $60 star the best. I have a few quantums and stradics, and both seem to be great reels. The quantum (I have the cabo) is an actual “saltwater” reel, where the standard stradic is not.

any reels are saltwater reels, as long as you wash em.

IMO loomisis are overrated. JUst get a shimano. Saharas are great reels in the 50$ range. 50 at b-and-b, 75 at haddrels.

yes haddrells has loomis

Got him!!!

my 5 year old stradic cost 130

I am with Dolphin D, I have star rods with Quantum Cabos and have been very pleased. The whole set-up rod and reel is $200 or less.

If you can get your hands on one of the older (when they made em in America) Penn Slammer 260s or 360s thats what you want.

I don’t care how much you wash your reels, you will destroy anything if you fish hard out a kayak, its just a matter of time. The Slammers used to hold up for me and my buddies for over a year before we had to take them apart and clean everything.

good luck and lemme know if ya find any

Loomis rods are not over rated. They have the best warranty and feel of any rod out there. Now i do have a Crowder( sold @ Barton&Burwell) that i would not trade as well. I also have a couple of heavier star rods that are kick a$$ but those were bought years ago when star was superior in quality. You can’t go wrong with Shimano. They are reasonably priced and have excellent warranties.
