This engine has always run like a top with no issues before today. Today it did well at higher speeds after planing out. But at low speed (just in gear) through no-wake zones it started choking a little. Engine shook and acted like it was bogging down or too rich. Cut off once. A couple of times I gave gas to get up to speed and plane out and it wouldn’t respond.
What’s my order of things to check? Fuel filter? Idle adjustment? I have no idea.
I’m not a mechanic, but I always prefer to trouble shoot what I can before taking to a shop.
I really really appreciate any advice. Fingers crossed that you guys might know right away what’s causing this.
always start with compression test and spark check
then you can spray a little starting fluid at the intake and see if it smooth’s out.

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING
Thank you, Chris, for a starting point.
When’s the last time fuel filter was changed? Is the bulb holding its prime or was it “compressed”? Possibly your fuel tank vent is clogged? I used to do a tank of SeaFoam at the start of the Spring/Summer and felt that helped with the gas that sat most of winter.

Thank you, Denmark! Pending a test on the water to confirm the fix, I may owe you a beer. The fuel filter was really dirty, so I replaced with a new one.
Old on the left, new on the right.
