Would anyone have any thoughts on the following issue?
2006 Yamaha 15 MSH motor starts fine (pull start only), idles good , When running full throttle after a minute or 2 it loses power if you keep on the throttle it will stall but if you back off it will stay running and you can run full throttle again for a minute or 2 again…
items checked
fuel tank in good clean condition.
good fuel to fuel filter under cowling
good fuel flow to fuel pump mounted on carb.
did notice bowel on fuel filter does not stay full of fuel , not sure if it should or not.
if i squeeze the fuel bulb while running it still fails.
so i am not sure where my issue might be… Can it be some sort of guarding mode and not have an alarm sounding , does this motor have an alarm system for failures ?
any help is appreciated.

I’ve had problems before out of my current 15 hp and my previous 8 hp(different makes, 4 strokes).
The carbs have an idle circuit and a circuit for higher rpms. The fact that it’s working in the lower rpms makes me think that circuit is ok. The way it runs for a few minutes and then cuts back makes me think there’s something wrong with the float. The higher rpms makes me question that fuel circuit on the carb.
Easy enough to work on, but you’ll need to take the carb off probably. I’d check the bowl/float first since that’ll be easy. Check the little valve that’s controlled by the float. Rinse out all circuits with carb cleaner. Could just be a little speck or some buildup.
Some motors cutback when the oil is low, but I think this one is a 2 stroke?
If you don’t already, use 0% ethanol. I always thought they were shooting me a line, but it’s a totally different motor running on real gas. NO problems whatsoever…Knock on wood.
is it overheating and going into rpm reduction?
