there is a balancer on the first stages of that engine that did not have enough cooling ports. it will break apart over time and drop debris in the oil and blow the engine. there is an update for the engine problem now. take it in for service and describe the problem, the shop should know what you’re describing.
I’ve got a 2005 that has made that whining sound since it was about 6 months old. Dealer said it was the timing belt and at the time he could replace it under warranty. I did not want to break the engine down for just a noise and decided to wait it out as I had a three year warranty. Well, its 7 years now and still has the same whine. I’ve got over 1800 hours on it and it still is till whining and running strong.

if you send me the engine serial number, I can look it up to see if its still under warranty, and if so, you can bring it in, and we can handle everything for you.
If its not under warranty, we can still help you.

I have a pair of 2005 f150s and was told that I need to replace the balancers immediately. Mechanic calls yamaha and was told engines 5 yrs out of warranty so they wouldn’t cover it… Wonder if I called if it would make a difference?
I’m gonna give it a go I suppose… Nothing to lose, everything to gain.

Heather send DoubleN a PM… Glenn can give u the break down of how it got resolved first hand… To my knowledge the mechanic called yamaha and let them listen to the motor running over the phone and they said absolutely its the balancer and agreed to replace it free of charge… I would definitely call yamaha myself and see what they have to say. Replacing the balancers on twins will probably be around $2000? A phone call won’t cost you a dime…
Shouldn't you be asking if I had the engines checked out?
