I have heard that this is the workhorse motor of the century. Is it true that it is really more powerful than 150, and with the right prop it is almost a 175hp?
your opinions, please?

Love mine. I have a 2005 (first year out). I have it on a SV 2400 Sea Pro which is rated for 300 HP. When I ordered it with the 150, the salesman thought I was crazy and called the factory. They didn’t want to sell it to me as a package until I signed off that I knew the boat would be slow and underpowered. I wasn’t worried about that as my wife never wants to go over 20 to 25 MPH. Ends up that it goes 43 MPH with me and 80 gallons of fuel. With 6 people and 40 gallons of fuel it still runs about 38 MPH. I have had no problems pushing a full load of 10 people with a ton of beach gear and tackle. It really does what I wanted as it runs 26MPH at 3800 cruise and gets great milage. Not the first problem to report and its been used hard now for 5 1/2 years. Just changed the water pump for the first time as a precaution. Hardly saw any damage but now have peace of mind. I highly recommend this motor, Just be careful at the dock. Its so quiet, you’ll try to start it even though it may already be running.
I love mine too! Mine is a 2005 also with right at 1900 hours. Plenty of power for my boat and pretty good mileage.
I have changed the water pump twice which was pretty easy. Both times the impeller looked good. The only problem that I have had was the balancer assembly. It completely came apart, but Yamaha took care of all the costs, even out of warranty. I service it myself every 100 hours including changing the LU oil.

a 24 with a 150 won’t get out of it’s own way.
i call BS on 43 mph with 80 gals of fuel on board.
the only way it does that is on a trailer or by the speedo- and we all know they’re wrong.

Great motor. I beleive its actually 162hp, but someone w/ tech data can chime in. We have a 28’ aluminum catamaran that had 115’s on it. Repowered with the 150’s and she is a totally new boat. Faster out the hole, faster cruise, faster top end all while being more fuel efficient.

bad habit
hes probably pretty accurate
the 24 seapro bayboat with a 225 does just about 50, and the 225 only put out about 212 HP
