My alarm went off after cranking it up after sitting for a long time…too long.
I took it off the lift ran it for 5 min then let it idle at the dock for a few min, then alarm went off. Cut motor checked oil, checked heat everything was fine. Let motor sit then cranked it back up and ran it for about an hour. No alarms went off.
Any ideas?
If it’s a water pump issue it’s not going to get any better on it’s own. Go ahead and replace it now and save yourself some grief later. When you’re 50 miles offshore and it keeps alarming…
Fuel water seperator full of water from the old fuel that has been sitting awhile? My first guess would be bad gas. That’s a good place to start if the boat has sat a long while. Only a guess though. .
If the alarm sounds when the engine is running and out of gear but does not sound when the engine is in gear, it is a water separator alarm. Remove the engine mounted separator ( located under the cover on the front of the engine) take it apart, clean it out and replace the small filter element. You will also need to change the large water separator filter located on the boat, if water is getting to the alarm you have water in the big filter. If you have water in the big filter, you have water in the tank. While all this is going on you need to figure out how to get the rest of the water out of the gas. Doesn’t do much good to clean the water alarm and big filter/separator if there is still water in the tank.
Sounds to me like water condensed during the winter and was sucked up when you cranked her up. I have had experience with this issue and it was not pleasant at all!
