Yamaha 2004 F150 alarm went off

My alarm went off after cranking it up after sitting for a long time…too long.
I took it off the lift ran it for 5 min then let it idle at the dock for a few min, then alarm went off. Cut motor checked oil, checked heat everything was fine. Let motor sit then cranked it back up and ran it for about an hour. No alarms went off.
Any ideas?

How long was it before it started peeing after you cranked it up?

Air bubble at your temperature switch (alarm)? I know that can happen on an inboard.

It was clear and peeing fine, water was not hot coming out.

sounds like a waterpump or thermostat issue
even when motor is overheating, water coming out will not usually be hot.

Poppit valve stuck open?

Should I get it checked out or if the alarm never came back on is it fine?

If it’s a water pump issue it’s not going to get any better on it’s own. Go ahead and replace it now and save yourself some grief later. When you’re 50 miles offshore and it keeps alarming…

Fuel water seperator full of water from the old fuel that has been sitting awhile? My first guess would be bad gas. That’s a good place to start if the boat has sat a long while. Only a guess though. .

Had no Idea there is a alarm for the fuel water separator? I don’t think I have ever noticed or heard or it

Water in fuel will set off an alarm. Did you have ethanol free gas in it while it was sitting?

Yes. I checked the filter, O ring looked fine and no separation and new Water Fuel separator last summer…I will recheck when I get back there.
Thanks

If the alarm sounds when the engine is running and out of gear but does not sound when the engine is in gear, it is a water separator alarm. Remove the engine mounted separator ( located under the cover on the front of the engine) take it apart, clean it out and replace the small filter element. You will also need to change the large water separator filter located on the boat, if water is getting to the alarm you have water in the big filter. If you have water in the big filter, you have water in the tank. While all this is going on you need to figure out how to get the rest of the water out of the gas. Doesn’t do much good to clean the water alarm and big filter/separator if there is still water in the tank.

Sounds to me like water condensed during the winter and was sucked up when you cranked her up. I have had experience with this issue and it was not pleasant at all!

Good luck
