OK, I’m not a mechanic. Yesterday my new to me 2005 Yamaha 225 4-stroke with about 250 hours quit all of a sudden after running great for 2 days. It would crank but only run for 3 to 5 seconds then quit again. It has a fuel/water separator. Other filters are unknown. The motor is still under warranty but I’m hoping its a fuel problem. Water? Ethanol? The boat had been used on 2 offshore trips earlier this year but the gas (120 gallons) dates back to April and beyond. No fuel additives. Called the guy i bought it from and he swears it had never done that before.
I’d love to take it to ChrisV but thats a long haul from Irmo.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
OK, so my mechanic says a motor with a fuel lifter pump should not have a primer bulb. They took it out and motor ran fine. Who knows? Primer bulb or not??

chris V - Thanks for your reply! When the motor quit the other day, we pumped the primer bulb for 30 min. to no avail. I understand your points completely that was just what my mechanic was saying. I’m guessing if you were working on it you would leave the primer bulb on. He is replacing the lift pump. (expensive!!) Guess I’ll see if that works. Based on your opinion I think I’ll have him put on a new primer bulb as well. Thanks again.
