Yamaha 50 Problem

I took my boat out last week and it was running fine for about 30 minutes then all of sudden the engine shuts off, ok so we crank it again and it idles fine but then whenever I try to give it any gas the engine just dies. I checked the fuel filter for water after I got it back home and no water in it. Same thing happened again last night, ran fine for the first 15 minutes then it shuts off. The weird thing is once I get it home and am flushing the engine out it runs perfect. Could anyone possibly help?

sounds like it may be overheating and cutting itself off to prevent damage. Is your pisser pissing? How about your fuel lines?? Are they brand new? I would replace them if they are old and you have been running ethanol through them. I would also check the in line fuel filter on the engine as well.

changed the fuel filter today and the gas, and its still doing the same thing. And yeah it’s pissing

That is the best I could do for you. Is the primer bulb staying firm?

one or more of your carbs is probally clogged. try the spray to see if thats the problem. worked on my yammie 60

i agree sounds like carbs. been my experience if it runs at home but not in the water thats ur problem. pull the bowls and clean em good then spray carb cleaner through the jets.

I had two problems with my yamaha 50. The thermostat was corroded with salt and wouldn’t open and would cause the motor to shut down. Also until I started using fuel additive it would only run above idle for a minute or two before shutting off. With both problems it ran fine in the driveway. Problems always show themselves under a load.
