I have a 2006 F115 that just starting having an intermittent tilt/trim issue. When I use either the switch at the binnacle or the switch on the side of the motor to trim up, sometimes nothing happens. I hear an audible click (assuming that’s a relay clicking), but the tilt motor doesn’t fire. If I keep hitting the button several more times, it eventually goes. I don’t think it has happened when tilting down — just up. (Edit: The problem is very reproducible when going up. I went outside and tried several times to get it to do it going down, but it never did it)
Where should I start chasing down this issue? Would a relay be the most likely culprit, or is likely that the motor is starting to go? I assume either of these are a relatively easy fix.
I have A 2003 Yamaha 70 TLRB. It started doing the same thing last year. I replaced the relay and no problems since. Just my .02, I’m sure someone with more knowledge than me will chime in.

I agree with DF , same thing happened to me,exactly as you described.Berkeley Outdoors has great prices on Yamaha parts and not a hard job to do yourself.
you can start by disconnecting the blue and green wires from the relay and giving them power and ground directly.
positive to one and negative to the other.
reverse the colors to change direction.
if you do not have any issues powering it directly, then replace the relay.
Awesome – thanks for the tips guys. I assume I could also just take a multimeter to the blue and green as well, right? If I am getting + or - 12V when the switch is hit (but when the motor doesn’t fire), that would indicate it is the motor, right? If I get nothing, then it would be the relay?
Just fixed the same problem. Could of swore it was the relay, but after testing just like Chris said it ended up to be the motor. A tap on the motor with a screwdriver and it worked a few times before quitting again.
Test as Chris stated, or you may end up replacing a $280 relay for nothing.
The first thing I did was just swap the blue and green (so that down was up, and now up was down). Originally, the motor would only not work going up sometimes. Now, up worked fine. It would now not work going down. This makes me think it is the relay pack.
I pulled the wires and hooked it up to a battery, and I could not replicate the problem, but I also didn’t try for very long.
I then hooked the wired back up to the relay pack correctly, and now everything is working all the time. Who knows… but I am assuming the relay is going bad.
