Yamaha F150 driveshaft replacement

I got a great deal on a lower unit for an F150 that needs a new drive shaft due to a boogered woodruff key removal. I was just planning on getting the shaft replaced, but then I thought, maybe someone likes a good challenge. Has anyone seen a shop in town that fixed what seemed to be the unfixable?

How bad? We remove stuck ones every day. Never had one yet we couldn’t get out

Worst one one I’ve ever seen. It’s been ground down, I think he was trying to split it in half with a dremel but it didn’t budge so he tried to grind the whole thing out. There’s nothing left to pull on. I saw a guy with a torch “blow” a bolt out that had been broke off in a cylinder head once. Not sure if you could do the same with this.

If its an actual woodruff key, you can tap down on one end of the key with a very sharp punch (I’d use a transfer punch) and due to its half circle design, the other end will pop up. Then grasp with a sharp pair of wire cutters and pull it out. Sometimes a good soak with penetrating oil before hand will help out tremendously.

I assume you are talking about the water pump woodruff key.
