Yamaha F150 issue

I have a 2006 Yamaha F150 with about 200hrs. Two years ago it started to run a little warmer than it used to ( next to the last bar on the digital gauge) so I replaced the water pump and housing, thermostat, and flushed it out real good. When I ran it, it still did the same thing. It has never run hot just hotter than it was when I first got it. So, recently I was told about the balancer issue on these motors. Mine has been making the tell tale whine for a few trips now so immediately though that the gear had shredded. I started watching the oil pressure gauge closely and it reads 2 bars regardless if at idle or or WOT. So My reasoning was that the gear had shredded, clogging the oil strainer, while also not circulating as much oil causing it to run warmer. I took the balancer assembly off today and this is what it looks like. There doesn’t appear to be much damage to it at all and certainly not enough to clog an oil strainer. I will be replacing the balancer anyway. I guess it’s a bad oil pump… Any ideas before I go ahead with replacing the oil pump besides metering the sensors? Thanks for any help or ideas

I heard today there was some sort of recall on those 150’s in that time period. Might want to check on that. Derek Eager (Baitman) was explaining it to me.

Thanks marshgrass I will look into that

I had that same motor awhile back and Yamaha covered the balancer replacement under warranty prior to failure…it was whistling tho.

Not a recall, so I don’t think they will cover it for ya now.

The oil pump should have a pressure relief valve to maintain the correct pressure at idle or full throttle. I have the service manual on PDF for that motor I can send if you`d like. I was having issues with my motor so I bought the Yamaha diagnostic software and cable, it also came with service manuals for most Yamaha motors thru 2012 I believe. The heat issue could be corrosion on the temperature sensor or the sensor is out of range.

Thanks for the info. I was able to get the service manual B. I will check the temp sensor and give it a good cleaning and find a way to hook a pressure gauge to check the oil pressure. PRV could be the culprit

I would strongly advise getting that balancer replaced!!

Good Luck

I had the same motor with the same problem. Replaced the unit for I think around 600. No warranty. My mechanic said it was from lack of use… Maybe true? Sad but only put 150hrs from 06 to 14

if its whinning the balancer has not failed yet
replace it before it does
there wasn’t an actual recall, but a service bulletin that covered replacement during the warranty period
your motor is 9 years old, doubtful they would still cover it, but its always worth asking.
I would verify the engine temp before you go trying to fix what may not be broken.
that motor should be around 140 degrees I believe the alarm sounds at 180

May not fix your problem, but I also have a 2006 that needed balancer replacement. yamaha will not replace the balancer under warranty but will offer you a “discount” on the replacement one. I bought my new one from a place in Florida and saved hundreds. Installed myself in a few hours. Just FYI.

I got it 2 years ago and it had 42hrs on it, so it did sit up a good bit. I will be replacing the balancer for certain. I got a gauge to put on it and a temp gun I just haven’t had a chance to work on it again. Once again thanks for all the help guys
