so no problems at all until today, i went to start the motor in the yard and all i get is a clicking noise so i checked the batteries and they were old so i went ahead and replaced them hoping that was the issue but i had no luck. I made sure my kill switch lanyard was working properly, cleaned all the connections, checked the started fuse under the cowling, and i even jumped the solenoid when i jump the input and output the starter spins but does not move up to engage the flywheel. im hoping to get a second opinion because i am at a loss
Use some jumper cables and go form the battery ( both) terminals. Put the ground on the engine block and the + to the starter. The engine should start. You can then “back up” through the system till you find the bad component.
ZX
so i tried to jump start it from battery to the input and ground block with no luck… nothing at all happened but I did change the fuse just to try it and when I put the spare in and turned the motor fired right up. second try nothing but a click again
Its most likely the relay, Just changed mine 3 weeks ago and all is well again.
thank you i really appreciate it ill let you know how it goes. without 2 people it makes it hard to turn the key and listen for the click location
there is a brown wire going to the starter solenoid. it has a quick disconnect plug about 6 inches from the starter.
unplug it. jump 12 volts to that brown wire on the starter side. if its a starter, it still will not start.
if its a relay or switch or boat harness, th emotor will spin over properly. you need to use the jumper cables from the battery to the starter and ground to make sure its not a cable issue.

IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS, ITS NOT ON PURPOSE, AND I AM NOT YELLING
Try turning it slow. I had my f40 do the same thing and it was the key switch. If I dumped it it would click. But if I turned it slowly it would crank.
